Sumatra Oriental Lily
One of the darkest garnet red Orientals and latest blooming offered in the lily market! In the past, this oriental lily had only been offered as a cut flower in quality floral shops for many years. Because of its intense color and heavy stem, it should be planted in full sun for most of the day. ‘Sumatra’ needs a brightly lit site (not baking sun) for sturdier stems and so that its color really shines. In weather over 90 degrees F. the flowers are a bright red color, in light shade and cooler weather, they are a true black-red and the speckles are not as visible. As Sumatra ages, you can expect differing shades of color, depending on summertime weather. Planting with lighter colored lilies for contrast really makes both colors pop!
